Culture Change

Business cultures have a significant impact on performance.  We at Unicorn can help you understand your organisation and team cultures, how they came into existence, how they impact on achieving business goals, and identify changes to support your strategic direction.

When businesses change approach or direction, the greatest challenge is often in realigning the focus and priority of your people.  We work with individuals and teams to build their understanding of changing requirements, and develop the skills to realise a successful transformation.

Part of this process involves acknowledgement and management of the psychological impacts of change and supporting the shifts, or transformations, that need to take place in terms of individual beliefs and behaviour.  (We have quite a few psychologists on our team!)

Making the change

The first step in ‘Culture Change’ is really understanding what the leaders in the organisation want. People often talk in the generic about cultures without really clarifying what is meant.

At Unicorn, we support leaders to build their vision, and from this extract the underpinning approaches the organisation must adopt to deliver this.

At this point in the change, some organisations put some posters on the wall and truly believe they have ‘sorted’ the culture and the transformation is complete. Unfortunately, this approach usually gives rise to cries of hypocrisy and a culture of resentment sets in.

Understanding how the culture should be is just the first step, the following are essential to make this new way of being a reality:

  • Leadership team demonstrate the required approach in all aspects of their work
  • Management are involved with the new approach, understand their role and demonstrate the desired behaviours
  • Everyone engages with the new approach and are supported to develop their understanding of what is required and their skill in delivering this
