Coaching

At Unicorn, we offer team coaching and one-to-one coaching. When working with your team, our coach takes you through the following process initially:

  • Goals – where you want to be
  • Resistance – what might stop you getting there
  • Opportunities – how you might make this happen
  • Action Plan – what you are going to do, when and how

Our coach then meets with your team at predetermined intervals to review progress. During these sessions the coach will assist you to: Report on progress Identify blocks and challenges (external and personal resistance) Identify potential ways through / round blocks Identify potential new approaches Review initial goals Re-plan Working with your team in this way, our coach transfers the techniques and skills of coaching to team members so they can in time become self-coaching teams. This approach supports your teams to really deliver on their intentions. Every client is unique and as such requires a unique development solution. We at Unicorn have found that significant performance improvement comes from releasing individuals’ skills through personal coaching to build Emotional Competencies* such as:

  • Self-Awareness (Knowing one's internal states, preferences, resources and intuitions)
  • Self Regulation (Managing one's internal states, impulses and resources)
  • Personal Motivation (Tendencies that guide or facilitate goal achievement)
  • Empathy (Being aware of others' feeling, needs and concerns) *Goleman (1998) ‘Working With Emotional Intelligence’

We monitor all our coaching activity to ensure organisational benefit continues to be at the core of this activity. Line managers play a key role in setting up the coaching and supporting their people in undertaking changes in approach. Managers are also included in the review and consulted on any change of goals during the coaching process.

The coaching goals clients need to focus on are individual and vary widely. Some common themes include:

  • Flexibility of Leadership style
  • Adapting behaviour to fit organisational needs
  • Thinking strategically
  • Making clear, confident decisions
  • Career management
  • Communication skills
  • Time Management
  • Regaining work/life balance
